One of the first questions I get from families relocating to the San Lorenzo Valley is about sports and activities for their kids - and I always give the honest version first: what's available right here in Felton, Ben Lomond, and Boulder Creek covers the rec-league basics well, but for select or travel-level programs, most families end up driving down to Scotts Valley or Santa Cruz. Neither is a dealbreaker. It's just worth knowing before you're the one making that drive on a Tuesday night.

How to find what's right for your kid
Start with one activity, not three - kids need time to figure out what they actually love before you're managing three schedules across two towns. Most leagues have a trial period, so ask before you commit. San Lorenzo Valley Parks and Recreation is almost always the most affordable entry point, and it's local. And ask your neighbors - up here, the best programs get passed along at pickup and on the community Facebook groups long before they show up on Google.
Why this matters when you're buying
Proximity to fields, the rec center, and the pool matters more than most buyers realize until they're doing the school-pickup-to-practice drive twice a week. A home in Felton close to the ballfields is a different daily life than one tucked up a private road in Boulder Creek, twenty minutes from the nearest game. Neither is wrong - it's just worth thinking through before you choose where to plant roots.
