The Real Reason I Switched to eXp (And Why I Would Do It Again)

It was not about the virtual model

When people hear eXp they often focus on the virtual brokerage piece, no physical office, cloud-based infrastructure. That is the thing that gets talked about the most, often as a criticism.

But that was not why I switched. And honestly it was not the part that changed my business.

I switched because of the math. I had been selling around $4 million a year and giving away 30 to 40 percent of every commission to a traditional brokerage. I found eXp on Instagram, did the actual numbers, and could not justify staying where I was.

In 2025 I sold $12 million and paid eXp $16,000 total for the year. That is the reason I switched.

What I found that I was not expecting

What surprised me about eXp was not the technology or the cap structure, though both of those things matter. It was the culture I found alongside it.

I joined Powerhouse the same year I moved to eXp. A community of women in real estate who share what is working in their businesses without protecting it, who cheer each other on without performing it, and who talk honestly about both the wins and the hard stuff.

That combination, a brokerage model that stopped taxing my production and a community that expanded what I thought was possible, was what actually moved the needle.

I do not think the math change alone would have done it. And I do not think the community alone would have done it either. Together they changed the year.

Whether I would recommend it

Yes, for the right agent.

If you are brand new and need a lot of in-person mentorship, eXp might not be your first step. There are seasons where the traditional team model is the right move.

But if you have been producing for a few years, you know your market, and you are watching a large chunk of your earnings leave before you can do anything with them, eXp is worth understanding seriously. Not through a recruiter's pitch. Through the actual math on your own numbers.

I am building a group of agents who are the right fit and who stay because the model genuinely works for them, not because I sold them on it. If you want to talk through whether that is you, reach out. I would rather have a real conversation than a fast one.
