Where to Buy Fresh Flowers in the Santa Cruz Mountains (and Why I Think You Should)

A few years ago I started buying myself flowers every week. Not for a special occasion. Not because anyone was coming over. Just because I wanted something alive on my kitchen counter that wasn't a screen.

It changed how I felt about my home more than almost anything else I've done to it.

I'm not talking about elaborate arrangements. I'm talking about a $12 bunch of dahlias from a farmers market that you stuff into a mason jar and set next to the coffee maker. That's it. That's the whole thing.

If you live in the mountains, here's where I go and what I've found worth knowing.

The Farmers Market Route

This is where you get the good stuff. Local growers, seasonal variety, prices that make you feel like you're getting away with something. The flowers are cut closer to harvest, which means they actually last.

Scotts Valley Farmers Market – 5060 Scotts Valley Dr, Scotts Valley. Saturdays, 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Reopening May 2, 2026.

Boulder Creek Farmers Market – Junction Park, Boulder Creek. Thursdays from 1:30 PM to 6:30 PM. This new market launched on April 23, 2026, and is scheduled to run through September.

Felton Farmers Market – 120 Russell Ave, Felton. Tuesdays from 1:30 PM to 5:30 PM. Reopening May 5, 2026. This is a seasonal market that runs through October.

The Grocery Store Route

Sometimes you're already in town running errands and you just want to grab something. These spots have flower sections worth checking. They're not going to knock your socks off, but they're reliable and convenient, and that matters when you're trying to make this a habit rather than a project.

Wild Roots Market – Locations in Felton (6240 Highway 9) and Boulder Creek (13159 Highway 9). Open daily from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM.

The Florist Route

For when you want someone else to think about it. A good local florist knows what's in season, knows what will actually last, and can put together something you'd never come up with yourself. Worth it sometimes.

The Flower Ladies – Santa Cruz Mountains / Felton area. By appointment only. They focus on custom orders and event designs rather than retail walk-ins.

Flower Outlet – 219 Mt Hermon Rd, Ste E, Scotts Valley, CA 95066. Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:30 PM. Saturday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Sunday, 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Wild Iris Floral and Botanical – 6227 Highway 9, Felton, CA 95018. Tuesday through Saturday, 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Closed Sunday and Monday.

One More Thing

I bring this up because I talk a lot about mountain homes and what makes them feel like home. And honestly, some of it is the big stuff, the land, the trees, the quiet. But some of it is just having a vase of flowers on the counter on a Tuesday.

If you're curious what it actually feels like to live up here, beyond the real estate stuff, I share that on Instagram at @santacruzmountainsliving. It's the slower, more honest version of mountain life. Come find me there.
