The staff at your regular spot in Boulder Creek or Ben Lomond will start setting down the crayons before you even ask.
One local reality worth naming: cell service is spotty in parts of the canyon, so don't count on pulling up a wait-list app from the parking lot. Call ahead, or just show up and take your chances - that's mountain life.
